James Small S/S 2012 Collection at London Fashion Week
The Burberry show held in Hyde Park last week claimed to have the most celebrities under one roof – but they cheated and built a specially constructed catwalk that seemed to go on forever with hundreds of seats either side. Back in the more humble setting of Freemason Hall, another set of stars started to glitter into place and took their seats on front row. When their faces started to resemble Kate Moss, Jamie Hince, musician Labrinth and Jaime Winstone – you know this was going to be a special show. And James Small did not disappoint.
Entitling his collection ‘Drop Outs’, Small showcased his adaptation of the school uniform emphasising a bold, rebellious look to the bygone era of British education during mid 20th century. Slick, tightly fitted blazers with schoolboy shorts opened the show with floral printed shirts – a common theme throughout the collection as inspired by the festival or rock gigs usually held in the summer. Some of the highlighted garments include a velvet leopard print short and sheer silk deep purple shirt, matched with light navy trench thereby thrusting the classical, educational look into the savagely expressionist momentum of the 21st Century. Can’t wait to see you next year James.
